Plan Overview

With so many available Medicare plan options, it is important to learn about your choices.  Medi-CareFirst offers several options to meet your needs, including Blue Rx (Medicare Part D prescription drug) plans for individuals, and AdvantageBlue PFFS (Medicare Advantage Private-Fee-For-Service) plans for employer groups.  Medicare Supplement plans are also available through our affiliate, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.

Blue Rx

Medi-CareFirst offers two Part D plans for individuals, Blue Rx Standard and Blue Rx Enhanced. Both plans are approved by Medicare, and offer the same basic benefits:

  • No deductible
  • The same copayments for your prescription drugs.

Additionally, Blue Rx Enhanced offers coverage for Generic drugs while members are in the coverage gap

Both Blue Rx plans:

  • Accept prescriptions from any doctor, so you may see any doctor you wish
  • Include a large regional network of 1,400 pharmacies (including retail, home-infusion and long-term care pharmacies)
  • Provide access to over 60,000 pharmacies nationwide
  • Offer a free, optional Medication Management Program to help members with several medical conditions choose drugs that work best together to treat those conditions.

AdvantageBlue PFFS

AdvantageBlue Private-Fee-for-Service (PFFS) plans are currently only available through employer-groups.  AdvantageBlue PFFS plans combine all of the benefits of Original Medicare with richer benefits into one simple, easy-to-use plan.

Some AdvantageBlue PFFS plans include prescription drug coverage which is equal to or better than minimum requirements for a Medicare Part D plan.

Medigap

A Medigap, or Medicare Supplement Insurance policy is health insurance sold by a private insurance company to fill the “gaps” in the Original Medicare Plan coverage.

Medigap plans are available through our affiliate, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.
