I am already enrolled - Part D

How do I use my plan?

When you go to the pharmacy to have a prescription filled, just show your Medi-CareFirst Member ID card. Your Medi-CareFirst Member ID card is different than your Original Medicare card, and you should always take your Medi-CareFirst Member ID card with you when you go to the pharmacy. This will ensure that you:

  • Pay only your copay at the time your prescription is filled,
  • Have no additional paperwork to complete or mail when you return home.

Your Medi-CareFirst Member ID card contains all the information that the pharmacy needs to fill your prescription, including your name, your member number, the name of your plan, and all the phone numbers and processing information a pharmacy will need.

If you do not have your ID card with you when you fill a prescription, you may also use the letter that you received to confirm your enrollment.

If you do not have the confirmation letter or your ID card, you may have to pay the full cost of the prescription (rather than paying just your copay). If this happens, you would then fill out a claim form when you get home and send it to the address on the form.

Explanation of Benefits

Each month, you will be mailed an Explanation of Benefits (EOB). The EOB contains the following information:

  • How much your drugs cost,
  • How much you have paid for your drugs,
  • How much more you would have to spend to qualify for catastrophic coverage (which begins when you reach $4,050 in annual out-of-pocket drug costs),
  • News about changes in the drug formulary, such as changes in drug coverage or cost

Maintenance Medications

Drugs that you take regularly for an ongoing condition, like high blood pressure, are called maintenance medications. As part of your plan, you can get a three-month prescription filled and pay only a two-month copay at any participating retail pharmacy.

Appeals and Grievances

Medicare drug plans have many rules. You can ask Medi-CareFirst to make exceptions to those rules. You can also appeal our decision. Click here  to learn more.
