Specific Lots of ReliOn Insulin Syringes Recalled

November 11, 2008

Source: The Food and Drug Administration

The FDA issued a recall on a specific lot of ReliOn’s sterile, single-use, disposable hypodermic syringes, due to a mislabeling of the syringe. The recall applies to lot #813900, distributed from August 1, 2008 – October 8, 2008 and sold only at Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club pharmacies.

Use of these mislabeled syringes may result in patients receiving an overdose of up to two and a half times the intended dose, causing serious health consequences, low blood sugar and in some cases, death.

The lot number may be found on the back panel of the 100-count syringe carton or on the white paper backing of each syringe. Health care professionals and patients are urged to check all packaging for this number and to return the product to the pharmacy for replacement.
